When Life Trips You Up, Get Up and Keep On Going!

Have you ever tried to prevent something from happening that you knew eventually would happen? I never plan on falling but I know eventually I will trip and fall–it’s just going to happen.
I’ll never forget falling out of the car in the church parking lot when I was a kid and having to get stitches in my chin.
I have scraped my knees at least one thousand times or more over the years. I’ve learned to always have BandAids in my purse. When I was a kid, falling really wasn’t so embarrassing because every kid falls. But falling as a teenager and an adult—that’s another story. When you realize no one else falls except you when you’re out shopping or on a class activity, it can get embarrassing fast.
When I fall, I need to get my bearings before I get up. I fell flat on my face at church recently, and it was embarrassing. A bunch of people saw me fall and graciously helped me up and helped me put my shoes back on—because, of course, my shoes just had to come off. 🙄 Although my pride was hurt, once again I was reminded I have people who will care and stop and help me get up.
I don’t know if you’re like me, but sometimes I feel like I have to prove to people that I can do things on my own. I like to get up on my own after I fall but sometimes I’ll need a hand up. Even though I’m twenty-six years old, unfortunately I still fall—physically and spiritually.
When I spiritually fall, it’s sometimes not as noticeable as when I am physically falling. Wouldn’t you agree? We can hide our spiritual falls from everybody, except maybe your parents or spouse. The Lord obviously knows when we fall physically and spiritually. Isn’t that a comfort? He’s ready and waiting to help us at a moment’s notice. All you have to do is humbly ask and He will help you.
Psalm 28:7
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
Psalm 40:17
But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.
Psalm 46:1
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

This is such a great “pick me up”. Sorry for the pun, but it’s true. We all fall spiritually. The illustration of you falling physically is a great reminder of how we need the Lord, and we need each other when we do fall. Thanks so much for this!!! Yet again, your transparency is inspiring and challenging, and it stirs me. You are my favorite author!!❤️
